Trenza Z-Strand is a braid based on the Shiraz grape, blended together with a small quantity of local Monastrell and Garnacha Tinitorera. This braid has been created as a Rhone style variant, proving that Yecla is capable of making excellent quality Shiraz.
The Shiraz grapes were harvested manually in small cases of 15 kilos, during the third week of September 2007. The grapes were chilled first The grapes were cold soaked for 4-5 days at 5ºC before the addition of selected yeasts strains. The musts were manually pumped over and punched down several times daily during the 16/18 day fermentation and maceration. Racked to small new French Burgandy size oak barrels liters, where it also under went malolactic fermantation batonag. for 24 hours before gentle de-stemming. Immediately after a 25% saignee was done to concentrate colors, aromas and flavors.Tasting Notes
Deep ruby red, almost opaque. Intense nose with aromas reminiscent of ripe plums, black cherries, juicy blueberries. There are gentle notes of milk chocolate, vanilla cappuccino, and butterscotch. It has young grippy tannins on the palate with intense complex notes of toasted oak, cigar box, chocolate, black cherries and prunes.
